Returning Veterans Outdoor Retreat
For the past 10 years, IAFF 271 members have gathered up any veteran who wants to go, put them on a bus and driven them to do a variety of activities as a way to show them appreciation for their service and sacrifice.
They were among a group of about 40 veterans from the Missoula area that took part in an all-expenses-paid ski trip to Discovery for the Missoula Outdoor Veterans Retreat, sponsored by a host of local businesses and organized by volunteers from the Missoula Fire Department.
The day involved a sweet Beach Transportation ride to Discovery Ski Areafor a beautiful winter day of skiing/snowbaording . Thanks to Big Sky Brewing Company for their continued support as well as First Interstate Bank. We also could not have done it without Town Pump and Five Valleys Restoration & Cleaning either! We then finished off the day with a rad dinner at UPNSMOKIN BBQ House. Here is to making it happen again. IAFF Local 271 wants to thank all the soliders for attending and making this event a massive success!
The Missoula Fire Fighters I.A.F.F. Local #271 and The Missoula Veterans Center have held a one day retreat for returning veterans and a caretaker at Discovery Ski Area . Thanks to the many generous donations by local businesses, we have now hosted 7 events, providing retreats for our veterans in appreciation for their service. The retreats are garner great support and reviews from the participating veterans. These retreats provide a setting where combat veterans can work together to rebuild trust, confidence and camaraderie. We strive for team building and recreational activities. We are excited to help provide a network of support to not only are veterans but their family members as well.
The Vet Center staff will use these activities to help the veterans bond and work through their common readjustment issues. The Vet Center peer to peer counselors will also facilitate a combat veteran discussion group that will give these veterans the opportunity to help each other overcome their war time related issues.
The Missoula Fire Fighter’s I.A.F.F. Local #271 is committed to assisting with this retreat to show our gratitude for the sacrifices our service members have made. Their willingness to serve extended or multiple deployments overseas are a testament to their courage and dedication. IAFF Local 271 is always open to your donations, which make these events possible. Your financial contribution will fund the projected cost to conduct this event, including; activities, meals, supplies and insurance. This all-volunteer staffed event costs an estimated $150 per combat veteran. Your Contribution will make a significant difference in the lives of those who have sacrificed so much.
